American English Course for Primary School Children

Cool Kids Second Edition caters to children’s different learning styles with a range of hands-on activity types like stickers, cutouts and creative handicrafts. It encourages students’ participation, making skills practice meaningful and realistic to the child; and supports learner autonomy with a Self-evaluation feature and material they can work on independently, like the Workbook, their Cool Reading books and the online RLP.

Student’s Book - Ten units each include a colorful opening spread for children to identify the new vocabulary with stickers, Cool Language and Cool Grammar presentations, a song or chant, a Value, a practical craft activity, and a pair- or groupwork speaking game which recycles language from the previous two units; as well as meaningful vocabulary, grammar and skills practice. At the back of the book, children have a Cool Pictionary to record and consolidate their new vocabulary for homework and reference; the vocabulary stickers for the unit opener; and original Cool Crafts cutouts to create inventive handicrafts related to the unit topic.
The Workbook reflects the Student’s Book structure, with plenty of varied, fun activities to practice and review the language learned in class. Designed as a homework tool to encourage learner independence, children can do the activities at home, including extra listening tasks, simple, hands-on cutout activities, and interesting cross-curricular themes.
The CD contains audio recordings of all the vocabulary presentations, Cool Language, songs, chants, listening exercises and Pictionary words, from the Student’s Book and Workbook. The CD icon and audio track number are clearly shown next to the activity instruction, so you and your students know when and which track to play. You can all download the audio in MP3 format from the RLP, too, or listen to it directly online.
Cool Reading places emphasis on both comics and non-fiction texts to help students consolidate their knowledge and expand their vocabulary; and equally importantly, to encourage their creativity and research skills across content areas. This will help them develop good reading habits and reading comprehension skills to approach higher educational levels in the future. Stories are accompanied by Worksheets with activities to develop students’ critical thinking skills.
Teacher's Guide - the full-color, highly visual Unit Overview spread shows the unit vocabulary, Flashcards, Value, and Cool Grammar structure at a glance, plus a Cool Tip! for teaching or classroom management. Then interleaved teacher’s notes guide you through each lesson with: a box summarizing language objectives, materials and preparation; step-by-step instructions including Warm-ups and Wrap-ups; answer keys, listening scripts, and an Optional Activity; recommended homework in the Workbook. We also tell you where to introduce the Flashcards or other visual aids, use the audio, etc.
Resource CD - contains all the course audio, instructions to guide your students in making the innovative Cool Crafts at the back of their Student’s Books, templates for a couple of the class craft activities, Word Lists for all the new vocabulary unit-by-unit, and the Tests (both written and speaking) and corresponding answer keys.
Flashcards illustrating the target vocabulary in every unit, which you’ll generally use in the Vocabulary lesson at the start of the unit, with the class audio. The lesson plans in your Teacher’s Guide explain when and how to use them – use them whenever you want to review vocabulary, or in games, too!

Games, mini projects and songs contribute to revising the key issues in every unit. The Cool Kids’ Corner section offers possibilities to further develop Reading skills and vocabulary.
