Описание: Серия «Английский для академических целей» от Garnet Education - коллекция различных пособий и курсов для развития академических навыков владения английским языком. Книги предназначены для абитуриентов, студентов и преподавателей. The "English for Academic Purposes" series from Garnet Education is a collection of various textbooks and courses for developing academic English skills. The books are designed for prospective students, university students, and teachers.

EAP Essentials: A teacher’s guide to principles and practice Second Edition - With the increase in students joining academic English-language courses, the teaching of English for Academic Purposes is a rapidly expanding profession. There are, however, few specialist handbooks for the practising teacher in this field. Since the publication of the first edition of EAP Essentials, the number of international students joining English-medium undergraduate and postgraduate courses has continued to rise, and this book has continued to play an important role in the induction and continued professional development of EAP teachers around the world. This second edition maintains the features that made the first edition so valuable, with the addition of insights and additional classroom materials that reflect current developments in the field. EAP Essentials is grounded in the authors’ extensive practical experience in the EAP classroom. It bridges the gap between the theory and practice of EAP teaching, by distilling the insights from recent research into ideas that can be applied in teaching and materials development. The book builds confidence through a range of practical tasks and by providing case studies of real teachers and students. This enables the teacher to reflect on best practice and identify ways to develop their own teaching skills. EAP Essentials offers original and practical ideas appropriate to a wide variety of contexts. The accompanying free Classroom Materials also provide a large number of well-trialled materials that can be copied for use within the classroom. The book contains ten chapters, each one underpinned by up-to-date research, and backed up with a list of recommended further reading.

Access EAP: Foundations - is based on real student life and prepares students for the tasks that they will face while doing an English-medium higher education degree. Each unit follows the progress of three students in their first year at university as they have discussions, listen to lectures, read texts, work on assignments and make choices about how to study. Students will develop the language they need to meet the expectations of their lecturers, comparing ideas, explaining cause-effect relationships, interpreting data, writing assignments and e-mails and joining in discussions. The book has ten units, each divided into five lessons. The first lesson usually introduces an aspect of university life. Listening, reading, speaking and writing tasks are linked together around each theme, while other tasks develop the ability to think critically and to study effectively. Key words that are useful for academic study are listed by the texts in which they are presented, and regular tasks help understanding, support learning and practise using these key words. Students will learn the important language and grammar patterns needed for understanding and producing academic texts. They will also discover essential aspects of academic style, such as moving from general to specific information and from what is familiar to what is new.

Access EAP: Frameworks - is designed for students who are about to enter higher education studies in an English-speaking institution. The course is based on real student life and prepares students for the tasks they will face when studying in an English-medium higher education institution. The reader follows students at university as they have discussions, listen to lectures, read texts, work on assignments and make choices about how to study. The book builds language and competence across key academic themes such as academic integrity, argument and research, applying the concept of Graduate Attributes – skills, personal qualities and understanding that are developed through the higher education experience – to frame activities and tasks. The book has ten units, each framed around a key academic theme. Within each unit, the first section introduces the theme and subsequent sections develop the associated concepts, language and competence further or in a different context. The units are free standing, but within them the language skills and study competence are integrated, reflecting the reality of academic study. Key academic words are listed by the texts in which they are presented, and regular tasks help understanding, support learning and practise using these key words. Students will learn the important language and grammar patterns needed for understanding and producing academic texts. They will also discover essential aspects of academic study, including the ability to read critically and integrate ideas from sources into essays or reports.

Assessing EAP: Theory and practice in Assessment Literacy - provides EAP educators with a series of practical and accessible tools to assist in the process of developing and interpreting EAP tests and assessments. Assessing EAP is designed with busy EAP professionals in mind and can either be followed as a complete course, or used where necessary to focus on particular areas of the EAP testing and assessment process. Assessing EAP seeks to build a transferable framework of skills which will enhance the Assessment Literacy of educators responsible for creating EAP tests and assessments in a range of different contexts. The book contains 15 chapters, underpinned by research, and backed up with a list of recommended further reading. Each chapter contains a number of tasks which encourage the application of the theories in focus. Extension activities and a model for communicating good practice to stakeholders are provided at the end of each chapter, so that the key skills of EAP departments can be highlighted and communicated effectively. A glossary also defines the technical terms which have been referred to in the book.

50 Steps to Improving Your Academic Writing - addresses the challenges facing every student beginning a program of academic study. This comprehensive guide gives you everything you need to write well-constructed academic essays. It is packed full of information that is critical to attaining better marks, including: how to apply critical thinking skills, how to strengthen your arguments, how to include paper referencing, how to avoid plagiarism. 50 Steps has been developed to mirror best practice in academic essay writing: researching, planning, writing and then proofreading an essay. Multiple entry points allow you either to work through the book in chronological order or to dip in and out depending on your needs. The book contains a detailed answer key, a full glossary of terms, plus comprehensive reference material that provides study templates and useful hyperlinks, as well as additional examples and information about academic writing.

50 Steps to Improving Your Grammar - takes the reader through a comprehensive sequence of stages designed for the benefit of international students. The book clearly differentiates the grammatical requirements needed in a variety of contexts, for example in business, study or everyday conversation. 50 Steps to Improving Your Grammar is arranged in an order that reflects best practice, beginning with word class and progressing through sentence structure, punctuation and style. The book is designed so that students can either work through the steps in order or can focus on known areas of weakness. Each step should take approximately one hour to complete.

Contemporary Academic Writing - represents a new and interesting approach to writing academic essays, providing staged support and guidance from the sentence level right through to whole text. There is a strong focus on the high-frequency language and grammatical structures which are found in academic writing. The course employs a collaborative approach, whereby students are encouraged to work things out for themselves so as to deepen their understanding, thus enabling them to use this knowledge in real-life situations.

Passport to Academic Presentations - aims to demystify the entire oral presentation process by examining each of the different stages in turn. No prior knowledge is assumed, and students are gradually introduced to a set of core language and skills, allowing them to tackle oral presentations in an academic context with increased confidence and fluency. A key feature of the course is its focus on transferability; students are encouraged to apply the material to their own specific subject areas throughout. Each unit also contains advice on pronunciation and tips for improving oral presentation delivery.
